Bowel dysfunction is surrounded by misconceptions and taboos that may interfere with treatment and that may result in self-medication not always innocuous to the patient care.

An objective evaluation of the bowel dysfunction is important to be able to have a consistent measure, facilitate monitoring of disease progression and, also to compare patients for standardisation of treatment.

For transanal irrigation (TAI) treatment it is important to have a measure of improvement, or not, of symptoms to encourage the patient to adhere to treatment. There is not one scores that fit all. In this presentation an overview of different scores used in the scientific literature is presented.
